There’s no denying that dogs are fascinating beings that never fail to show unconditional love, especially towards babies who they would protect with their own lives. This is precisely the case of Gaia, a pregnant pooch who was left stranded on the streets of California.
The adorable dog never loses hope and perseveres each day to gather a meager amount of sustenance for her vulnerable offspring. She is a true hero, who gave up everything to save her beloved puppies until the very end.
During her travels, Gaia encounters two compassionate individuals who provide her with support during the final stage of her pregnancy. Despite their eagerness to offer her a permanent residence, the untamed dog remains hesitant to rely on humans once more and chooses to nurture her offspring independently.
The women who were worried about the pregnant dog made sure to get in touch with the Bill Foundation so that the dog could receive proper help during the birthing process. The charity also collaborated with Hope For Paws to find a suitable home for both the dog and her puppies. One of the rescuers, Eldad Hagar, went to the designated location where the birth was supposed to take place but was disappointed to only find three puppies without any trace of their mother.
While rescuing a group of puppies, Eldad kept a watchful eye on their mother to ensure she wouldn’t abandon them. Unfortunately, he received devastating news that the dog who had been hit by a car was their mother. Eldad rushed to her side and made a heartfelt promise to the dying dog that he would save her babies. With determination, he set out to find the puppies but discovered they were hiding in a large hole, scared and alone.
Eldad resorted to using food as a tactic to lure out some puppies from hiding, and it proved effective for one of them named Sydney. Even though Eldad already managed to get hold of one of the puppies, Sydney’s desperate cries prompted her siblings to scurry deeper into their hideout, beyond Eldad’s reach. “During that time, the other two little pups were so frightened that it took another two hours for them to come out,” recounted Eldad.
The man was worried about the cubs getting stuck deeper in the hole, which could make rescuing them challenging. To help them out, he picked up their mother’s limp body hoping that her presence would bring the cubs closer.
As a result, he successfully rescued the adorable Matilda, but there was still one more puppy left to save. After an arduous four-hour wait, the third pup finally emerged and proved to be more challenging to catch than the others. This little one was named Gabriella. Once all three puppies were safely together again, the rescuer brought them to the shelter where they found their forever home with a loving family within days – just as Gaia would have wanted.
The recent unfortunate incident serves as a timely reminder of the necessity to treat stray animals with compassion and kindness. Leaving them to fend for themselves is not only cruel but also harmful, especially during a vulnerable phase like pregnancy. Gia, the mother in question, was a remarkable caretaker, and her efforts will surely be cherished by her offspring in their new abode beyond the horizon.
